How this is calculated

Packing size = (Stuffing Box Bore − Shaft Diameter) / 2 — then rounded to the nearest standard commercial packing size (3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 19, 20, 22, 25mm) since packing is sold in fixed cross-sections.
Length per ring ≈ π × (Shaft Diameter + Packing Size), the approximate circumference through the centreline of the packing ring.
A flat 10% wastage allowance is added for field cutting and fitting losses per ring.
These figures are for budgeting and RFQ purposes. Final packing size should always be confirmed against the actual stuffing box drawing or by physical measurement before ordering.
