How this is calculated
- Before insulation (bare surface): Heat Loss = h × Area × (Operating Temp − Ambient Temp), where h is a combined convective + radiative coefficient that increases with temperature difference — a standard simplification for bare hot-surface loss.
- After insulation: Heat Loss = Area × (Operating Temp − Ambient Temp) / (Thickness / k + 1 / h₀), where k is the chosen material's thermal conductivity and h₀ is a representative outer-surface film coefficient.
- Pipe and tank surfaces are treated as their equivalent cylindrical side area (π × Diameter × Length); tank ends are excluded from this estimate.
- This is a budgeting-level estimate to guide your decision and generate an accurate inquiry — not a substitute for a full engineering heat-balance study on a critical process line.
