Chemical Compatibility Chart
General guidance on how well each material family we supply tolerates common industrial chemicals and conditions. These are typical ratings for the material family — always confirm the exact chemical, concentration and temperature with us before final material selection.

How to read this chart
- Ratings describe typical behaviour for the material family (e.g. PTFE, NBR rubber) under normal industrial concentrations and moderate temperature — not every specific chemical, concentration or temperature combination.
- NBR and EPDM ratings differ deliberately: NBR excels with oils/fuels but is weak against solvents, while EPDM is the reverse — excellent for weathering/water but poor with oils. Choosing the wrong rubber grade for the wrong exposure is the single most common gasket failure we see.
- Graphite Gland Packing is rated Poor for Chlorine & Oxidizers specifically because strong oxidizers (e.g. concentrated nitric or chromic acid) attack graphite chemically — PTFE-based packing should be used instead for that duty.
- Cotton/Jute Packing is intentionally rated low across most chemicals — it is priced and positioned for plain water and general low-duty service only, not chemical exposure.
- For a specific chemical, concentration and operating temperature not covered by this general guidance, contact us directly before finalising a material.
