Overview
PVC strip curtains are one of the most cost-effective pieces of environmental control you can fit to an industrial doorway. Overlapping flexible PVC strips hang across the opening to form a barrier that people, trolleys and forklifts push straight through — yet the moment they pass, the strips fall back and re-close the doorway. The result is a door that is effectively always shut to heat, cold, dust, fumes, noise and insects, while never being shut to traffic.
The economics are what make them so common. An open doorway between a climate-controlled area and the outside (or between a hot and a cold process area) leaks conditioned air continuously, and that loss shows up directly on the energy bill. A strip curtain stops the bulk of that exchange for a fraction of the cost of an automatic door, with no motor, sensor or maintenance contract to fail. On cold-storage and air-conditioned openings in particular, the payback is usually measured in months.
The grade matters as much as the curtain itself. We supply standard clear PVC for general doorways, low-temperature (polar) grade that stays flexible in freezer and cold-store openings where standard PVC would stiffen and crack, food grade for hygienic production and cold rooms, and welding grade (tinted, UV-filtering) for weld bays. Fitting the wrong grade — standard PVC on a freezer, for example — is the most common reason a curtain fails early.
For a specific doorway we can advise on strip width and overlap: wider 300 mm strips with a 50% overlap suit high-traffic and forklift openings, while narrower strips suit pedestrian doors. For heavy forklift traffic that keeps tearing plain strips, the double-ribbed grade takes the impact on the ribs and lasts far longer.

How much energy does a PVC strip curtain actually save?
On a cold-store or air-conditioned opening, a strip curtain typically retains the large majority of the conditioned air that an open doorway would lose. Because it also cuts compressor load and frost build-up, the payback on the curtain is usually a few months — which is why they are standard on refrigerated and climate-controlled doorways.
Which grade do I need for a freezer or cold store?
A low-temperature (polar) grade, not standard PVC. Standard PVC stiffens and cracks in sub-zero air; polar grade is formulated to stay flexible down to around −35°C. Fitting standard PVC to a freezer is the single most common cause of early curtain failure.
What overlap should the strips have?
For high-traffic and forklift doorways, a 50% overlap (each strip covering half the next) gives the best seal and durability. For light pedestrian traffic a 33% overlap is enough. More overlap seals better but costs more material.
Will forklifts damage the strips?
Plain strips will eventually tear on heavy forklift traffic. For that duty use the double-ribbed grade — the raised ribs take the impact and scuffing, so the curtain lasts far longer.
Can I get a food-safe version?
Yes — food-grade PVC is available for hygienic production areas and cold rooms. It is the correct choice wherever the curtain is near open product or in a wash-down environment.
Do you supply the mounting hardware and cut to size?
Yes. We supply full made-to-measure kits — strips plus stainless-steel wall or ceiling mounting hardware — and can advise on strip width and overlap for your exact doorway. Just send the opening width and height.
How do I measure my doorway?
