Why food-grade PTFE
Food/FDA-grade virgin PTFE rod is machined into scraper blades, valve components, seals, guides and slide pads that touch product directly. PTFE is inert and non-contaminating, so it will not taint flavour or introduce extractables, and its non-stick surface plus near-zero water absorption resist product build-up and make cleaning easy — important for preventing bacterial harbourage. It also survives the repeated hot clean-in-place and sterilise-in-place cycles that dairy, beverage, confectionery and pharmaceutical equipment go through daily, without degrading.
Compliance
For product-contact use, always confirm the PTFE is a certified food/FDA grade specifically — not all PTFE stock is graded and documented for food contact, and audited food and pharmaceutical operations usually require that documentation. We can supply PTFE rod in certified food-grade white PTFE with the appropriate compliance paperwork.
Machining for hygiene
For hygienic parts, a smooth machined finish matters: sharp tooling and correct feeds leave a cleaner surface that resists product adhesion and is easier to sanitise. Avoid deep tool marks and crevices in the design where possible. Give us the part drawing and we will machine it from certified food-grade PTFE to your finish requirement.
